Avatar

Des and I went to see Avatar this evening.  There were many good things, and it was very pretty, though the villain was pretty darn one dimensional and therefore frustrating to watch, and it had a good dose of ‘magic science’, you know, where bullets are useless against the enemy until the big rousing speech by the hero, then they’re suddenly useful again.  Funny to rip on after the fact stuff.  One thing Des and I chatted about on the way home was how these ‘Avatar’ bodies that the humans were using to communicate with the NA’Vi must look to the actual NA’Vi.  It was mentioned that they smelled wrong – do you think the human DNA changed the end product at all making them recognizably ‘other’ to the NA’Vi?  Is this, in fact, the equivalent of scientists putting on blackface in order to ‘better understand’ African tribal cultures?  This idea tickled Des, so he made the above poster for you all.  I’d love to hear your thoughts!
