Birthday’s a-comin’, I’ll be slightly older. I won’t be able to get away with as much crap as I used to. (sigh) Adulthood.

New site layout’s also a-comin’. It’ll look as mature as I am, huzzah! Also more portfolio stuff, eventually.

Been using the Windows 7 (primarily) since the RC was released: long story short, I like it.

On the entertainment front, just saw Up. Fantastic. Working our way through Blackadder, finishing up How I Met Your Mother, Castle, and Dollhouse. Also, ravenously awaiting the Beatles Rock Band.

And, because it’s so important it deserves it’s own paragraph… and maybe font, too, just a second…We’re going to see Paul McCartney in July!

On another note: anyone know of a good calendar plugin for WordPress? Something I can add upcoming events to? I’ve tried a couple and nothing’s worked so far.

First up is the only English Dragon Ball daizenshuu. Been meaning to pick this up for a while. Mini review: it’s a bunch of pictures, of Dragon Ball.

Katamari Damacy

Finally grabbed the first Katamari. Yes, I haven’ played Katamari until now. Great shame is upon me.

I love it. It’s simple and cute, yet leaves enough room allow a vast difference in performance from more or less skilled players (ie: Hillary and me, respectivly). I’m still not very good, but it’s damn good fun. We’re still trying to track down a copy of the second game.

Fururama the game

After the whole of the FMVs showed up as an extra on one of the new Futurama DVDs, Hillary and I were so enthralled that we had to order this, admittedly poor, video game. The worst thing about it is it’s really engaging, and you hate to have to quit playing – but it’s controls are just so frustrating I can’t handle more than a half-hour or so at a time.

And that’s about it. Still working on a new layout (mainly learning what all this WordPress stuff does), waiting for more DBAF pages (and maybe the ability to order the printed volumes – apparently they were availble for order, but have quickly sold out), and Hillary and I are starting to listen to the lofidelity podcasts together. Oh, and I’m on twitter. Yay, I guess. I don’t use it much, but it’s there, I suppose.

Dragon Ball

Toei is ‘refreshing’ Dragon Ball Z for HD by cutting down the number of episodes (from ~300 to ~100), rerecording dialogue, new sound effects, and extending the frame horizontally; and it will be airing every Sunday morning (right before One Piece) on Fuji TV starting on April (edit) 5 (Akira Toriyama’s birthday).

Buck 65

Dirtbike has been officially released. Liner notes too (though they’re basically website notes we’ve already seen).

Kind of dropped knitting. It’s fun and I’m still impressed with the whole “this was a string, now it’s clothes” deal, but I’m really not very good at it. I feel bad about it because I was really excited at first about it being something that Hillary and I can do together (and I think Hillary liked it too). I feel like I’m disappointing her.

And no new Toyble pages for a while. There was a post the other day that I haven’t yet had translated (seems to be about sales of the first two volumes either expanding or stopping; and new pages tomorrow?) but that’s it so far.

On the homefront Hil and I have been making our way through Kaufman films, and now a few classics (Ziegfeld, Some Like it Hot, Mr Smith Goes to Washington).

Also, I’ve been trying to do up a new layout for the site, as well as a few good example peices for the portfolio I’ve never finished.

And, just now, there a post about the Dragon Ball Evolution press kit. Here are a few quotes:

Well, here’s a recap since the last update: pretty well decided on some new computer hardware. And looking into replacing the current desk-kitchen-table setup with a nice long table, but I’m picky and cheap.

Also looking at options for driving courses. My Dad would love to show me the ropes but he’s been pretty busy for the last, well, few years; I don’t want to take up what free time he has.

Met up with the Knit Out Loud crowd last night. Great people, nice knits.

We found this on the way home from downtown. Profoundly disturbing.

I’ve been thinking of getting into the banking industry for a while now. Good pay, great hours, room for advancement. Plus it’s an impressive and grown-up sounding career.

This isn’t to say I’m unhappy with my current job, I love working with animals and my coworkers and employer are fantastic. There’s just not as much room for advancement (and having weekends is honestly a huge deal for me now).

Anyway, I have what could best be called crippling anxiety when confrontation is involved. And, in my head everything can be confrontational. So, usually, meeting new people is basically the worst thing in the world for me. At best, I’m nervous and queasy. At worst, like today’s expedition, I wander around for hours, nauseous, sweaty, frustrated and sad – and then I just go home.

It’s friggin’ ridiculous. Consciously I know that these people aren’t going to, like, yell or scoff or mock me (and if so, screw those guys) but I just can’t get myself to talk to them. The moment of “hello, my name is-” is just impossible for me and I just can’t do it.

This is the same reason I can’t answer the phone unless I know exactly who it is, and what they want. Hell, I almost always try to get people to email me instead (and even then, the  email back can cause the same nauseousness and crap).

Fortunately, Hillary can deal with these people (and I can’t thank her enough for all she does in this respect) but, unfortunately, she can’t be with me all the time. It’s hard to look like a serious and employable individual when some one’s holding your hand and doing all the talking for you.

And this has been going on, probably, forever; and the next best thing for me is psychological counselling.

This is all a lot to put out there. I don’t usually talk about “feelings”. It’s part of the “confrontation” thing. I don’t even tell Hillary about it this much, but telling it to the Internet seems easier somehow, because the worst you guys can do is mock me and if so, seriously, screw you guys. And maybe that’s a step in the right direction?

Knitting, and Disney, and Pixar, oh my!

And we just ordered the treadmill, so, soon, I’ll be a laze-about no more! We had been looking at getting a treadmill that was only available in Canada through Costco, but we were hesitant about signing up for a membership, basically, for one item. So, we decided to put it off and see if we could get a similar treadmill elsewhere, turns out, we can. Even better, in fact – and cheaper. So, ‘yea, us’.

One last thing – falafel is, apparently, a hummus burger. I can’t friggin’ wait.

Knitting’s going slowly but well. It’s somewhat frustrating that my stubby fingers are, well, stubby and awkward.

Amelia’s eye is watering and puffy, but nothing too serious.

Watching more Kaufman films (awesome) and Rifftrax (also awesome).  Specifically, Hil and I have been making our way through the Charlie Kaufman’s movies (the ones he wrote the screenplay for, not just the one he directed).  Hil had seen three, but I hadn’t seen one, so we did them in chronological order.  So far, our considered assessment is that Spike Jones/Jonze/however he feels like spelling it today is the best collaborator.  If you haven’t managed to see Being John Malkovich and Adaptation yet, go do so now.  Tonight we watched Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, which George Clooney directed.  Not my favourite of the lot, but still quite good.  Tomorrow:  Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which Hil assures me is amazing.  As for Rifftrax, we picked up the tracks for Spiderman 1-3, and watching them being mocked is extremely cathartic for me, and Hil keeps agreeing with the screen.  “Yes!  That’s the issue I had with this scene too!!”
